
Course Description
This course familiarises you with filmmaking process and builds a solid foundation in the core screen crafts. The course consists of both lectures and practical workshops. Part-Time Foundation in Filmmaking is designed to improve your understanding of:
- Part-time 12-week course (Tuesdays 7pm-10pm)
- Equips you with the technical skills relevant to film acting
- Builds a foundation in script analysis and performance
- Teaches you how to project confidence in front of the camera
- Covers clowning, improvisation and physical movement
- Suitable for beginners, no previous experience is required
• The role of director, including directing actors and preparing for a shoot
• The part of screenwriter and the stages of story development
• Camera training and technical operation skills
• Sound recording and working with sound equipment and recording dialogues
• Cinematography, lighting and the basics of shot composition
• Post production skills and editing your screen content
Course Content
- Improvisation
- Warm-up exercises
- Subtext – what is it and how can it be used
- Tools to improve a performance – subtext, facts, objectives and obstacles
- Discussing the ‘choices’ facing an actor in a scene
- How a good script analysis can improve a performance
- Applying the results of the analysis to a performance
- How to break down a story into story beats
- Be able to define the terms ‘through-line’ and ‘spine’
- Clowning techniques
- Techniques to improve physical movement
- Improvisation workshops
- How staging can chance the story of a scene
- How action reveals character details
- Know how set etiquette works
- Rehearsal techniques to improve performance in a filmed scene
- Using your newly acquired skills during your performance in a filmed scene
- Review and analysis of rushes
- How to move to the next stage of your acting career
Entry Requirements
Minimum Age: 18 at start of course
Entry Requirements: The course is open enrolment and there are no entry requirements.
